Roof Redone? Notify Your Insurer.

Over the past month, I’ve reviewed several home insurance policies where the roofing information was significantly outdated. Please remember to notify your insurance company when you get a new roof. Why bother?

  • Your rate might go down.
  • Avoid claim complications. Some policies modify the terms of coverage once the roof passes a certain age. For instance, at 20 years, some home insurance policies may automatically shift from replacement cost to a reduced amount of coverage for a roof.
  • Ensure your coverage fits your actual roof. Perhaps you upgraded from standard composition to architectural grade shingles or changed materials, say from shake to tile. You may need more or less coverage depending on the type.

Let me know of any questions.
