About Us

We live with our kids (and their chickens) in Aloha, sandwiched between Beaverton and Hillsboro. In short, we work, play, volunteer, worship, and enjoy raising our family here in Oregon.

Life is full.

We have five children so you can probably guess that we spend most hours with the most widely known yet underappreciated non-profit organization of them all, Par Enting.

On any given day at our home, you may witness remodeling, singing, welding, reading, fashion designing, bird-watching, apple-saucing, coop cleaning, praying, Rocket-League, or homework. We devour books, watch movies, enjoy conversation, love a good sports contest, and sleep.

We also try to support local community organizations, whether through working the Rhododendron Gardens, tutoring at the Union Gospel Mission, teaching history or Latin classes, or coordinating school activities.

We do this not because we’re great (though Kathryn is pretty great) but because we are thankful for the many ways that others have blessed us by their own involvement in our lives and this local community. This is also why we have a Community Giving Program.

In all, we remain captivated by the Pacific Northwest. While Eli has a pitiful weakness for trees, Kathryn loves the beach. It works out!

Life: curve balls and hard times.

On January 19, 2012, we received a distress call from Kathryn’s parents in Corvallis. We were living in South Bend, Indiana, and their house was collapsing in a mudslide.

They escaped, but over several horrific hours, they watched their home and business shudder into ruin. Over the next several months, through the support of friends, church, family—and their own grit—they relocated to Beaverton where we have family. We decided the best way to help was to be near.

So, we paused Eli’s academic work, sold our house, and loaded up the moving truck and minivan– oh, that breathtaking descent into the Columbia Gorge! We made it to Beaverton, where we settled only three blocks from Grandma and Grandpa and family for several years. (We’ve since purchased a home in Aloha.)

So, how does insurance fit in? Upon moving here, Eli began working 8 years for an upstanding State Farm agent named Scott Edmonds in Lake Oswego. Over 8 years Eli worked in many different agency roles.

Although Scott retired (40 years an agent!), Eli learned important lessons from him, clients, and colleagues, lessons that have shaped our views about what makes for a sensible approach to insurance.

A Sensible Approach

Thoughtful

We listen first and then offer comparisons that are relevant. (Without being pushy.)

Independent

We work with different companies to get better results; now, and down the road. (Usually, we save people money.)

Local

We work, play, volunteer, worship, and enjoy raising our family. (Right here in Oregon.)

Professional

With over a decade comparing car, home, and life insurance policies, we respect you, your time, and your decisions. (And expect the same.)

Products

Auto Insurance

+ boats, motorcycles, collectors, and RVs.

Home Insurance

+ renters, rentals, jewelry, earthquake, flood, and umbrellas.

Life Insurance

+ 10, 20, or 30 year terms.

Carriers

Insurance companies can have big differences in pricing and in their products. That’s the main reason we’re an independent agency. We seek better options.

Our main carriers are Safeco, Travelers, Progressive, Geovera, and Pacific Life. (Click on the logo to read our thoughts about that carrier.)
