I like all the seasons, but spring is intoxicating.
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I find the winters of western Oregon to be not very wintery. My wife, having grown up in Corvallis, thinks it’s plenty cold. For me, it’s more like fall stretches long, into unusual darkness, until, well, it’s spring. The best part of winter is that coffee tastes so good. Summers are so consistently wonderful that it begins to feel like I’m repeating the same day.
But spring I find intoxicating. The smell of flowers, the birds chirping, trees pushing buds, flowers rejoicing. Even when it rains, some days you can feel that warm breeze trying to push winter west, up over the mountains. Spring is the one part of the year I almost want to exercise.
Along those lines, I’ve begun to appreciate many of the beautiful flowers of our area. Here’re a few I’ve noticed these past few weeks. Absolute marvels.
The first are from Jenkins Estate at the edge of Beaverton and the last few from Jackson Bottom Wetlands at the edge of Hillsboro. Keep your eyes peeled!

Hopefully, the reality that I’m a lousy photographer encourages you to find some of the real deal.
